At first, it looks as if work uniforms are designed only for cosmetic value. However, if you look deeper, you will find that there is much more to it that just fashion. Among the many reasons work uniforms are important the topmost is safety; safety of the worker, safety of others and safety of machinery/ equipment as well.
1. Safety of the worker – first of all uniforms are designed to ensure the safety of the worker. For example, a police officer’s uniform consists of a bulletproof vest; a construction worker would have to wear a protective hardhat and hard boots, and so on.
2. Safety of others – work uniforms are also designed to protect others. For example, a surgeon will wear sterile clothing in order to protect himself and the patient from infection. The scientist who works with bio-hazardous/ radiation material would use these uniforms for his own protection and also to ensure that such exposure does not bring out dangerous substances outside the lab and jeopardize the safety of people at large.
